Jonathan violated social contract with Nigerians- Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader and former governor of Lagos State, has accused the Jonathan presidency of shirking its social contract with the people by suddenly removing fuel subsidy.
He, however, provided a window out of the crisis: if subsidy must be removed at all, it must never be at one fell swoop. Rather it must be on calibrated phrases, on which the promised gains are measured and confirmed before moving to the next phase of removal.
“Government must modify the sudden and complete removal of the subsidy. Either we restore the subsidy or use the funds for other social purposes,” Asiwaju Tinubu counselled in a special release he captioned, ‘Removal of oil subsidy – President Jonathan breaks social contract with the people’ and which he personally signed.

Tinubu On Ige, 10 years After Assassination
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 29 December 2011 07:27
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader, has said murdering a man of ideas like the late Bola Ige was futile, but charged the federal authorities not to rest until his killers were brought to book.
"Whoever thought killing Uncle Bola would bring an end to his ideas and ideals must have realised how fatally flawed they were," Asiwaju Tinubu said. "But the federal authorities must not rest until they find and punish those behind that dastardly murder; no matter how high ranking they are in the society.
The former governor of Lagos said it was a shame the killers of Bola Ige are still on the loose ten years after the heinous crime, insisting that the development has cast a slur on Nigeria's criminal-justice system.

Friday, 25 November 2011 07:38
Date: 24 November 2011
Nothing short of a sovereign national conference (SNC) will save the weakening pillars of Nigeria as a federal entity, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos and national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has said.
Speaking at the 1st Anthony Enahoro Memorial Lecture at the Benin Club, Benin City, Edo State, Asiwaju Tinubu, represented by Mrs Funmi Olayinka, deputy governor of Ekiti State, he declared: “Ladies and gentlemen, I submit to you today that because of the multiple issues surrounding our skewed federalism and constitutional flaws, the state of the Nigerian nation is weak. Unless we move to strengthen it through dialogue and equity,” he warned, “we will remain a nation in mere words.”

CCT discharges and acquits Tinubu
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 01 December 2011 20:54
Date: 30 November 2011
Source: Bola Tinubu Media Office
The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today discharged and acquitted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the grounds that:
Contrary to the rules of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), the CCB had not afforded Asiwaju Tinubu an opportunity to be confronted with the complaints against him and be allowed to admit or deny before the charges were filed against him. The court noted that the opportunity to admit or deny was given to other Governors and public officers charged with violation of the Code of Conduct, but was not given to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
That the prosecution abused the process of court by not seeking leave of the Tribunal to file two additional counts and that the filing of two sets of charges simultaneously constitutes an abuse of process. The charge did not disclose a prima facie case against the accused person as there was no proof of evidence attached to the charge, and that the charges did not show that the accounts were held by the accused persons, in fact the names were names of other persons.

NIGERIA AND THE SEARCH FOR CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRACY
Written by Administrator
Friday, 25 November 2011 07:29
Lecture delivered by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Inaugural Chief Anthony Enahoro Memorial Lecture, Benin Club, Benin City, Thursday, November 24, 2011.
PROTOCOL
Chief Anthony Enahoro was a noble human being. A veritable reference point for the new Nigeria we all yearn for. One of the finest statesmen and patriots of his time, he was both son and founding father of our nation. Not many men can claim this unique status. With regard to his contributions to Nigeria, he has few peers. This man was the best of us. Yet, in too many instances, the way our nation has evolved has not done honor to his contributions. Chief Anthony Enahoro was a light given unto us. Though he is no longer here, the light of his patriotic wisdom continues to shine through the dark mist to show us the path we must tread.
